The Surgical Technology program provides training for an entry-level career as a member of the operating room team where the Surgical Technologist works together with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical team members. Surgical Technologists maintain asepsis in the operating room, pass instruments, sterile items and equipment to the surgeon during a procedure, maintain the sterile field, and prepare patients, instruments, supplies, and equipment before and after an operation. Graduates may seek career opportunities in hospitals, surgical suites, or surgical centers as scrub surgical technologists, circulating surgical technologists, or second assisting technologists. Graduates of the CAAHEP-accredited program are eligible to sit for the national certification examination for Surgical Technology to become a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
The Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs upon recommendation of the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC-STSA).
